- Try pulling your entire TS3 game folder out of Documents to your Desktop for safekeeping, thus forcing the game to spawn a new one on its next attempted launch. There will be no installed content, worlds, mods, saved games, etc., but can you get a new game started on the clean folder or does it still crash before you even get that far?

It still crashes at the same spot, even when I took out the whole TS3 folder.0 - edited June 2017And this started happening all of a sudden, where the game started up properly until then? This may be far too simple a cause, but how are you doing on drive space on the drive you are playing on? You might want to put the compatibility settings back where they were by the way, those usually do more harm than good on TS3.
Did anything else change in between the successes and the failures -- a graphics driver update, anything interesting happen with Windows, things like that?

Our new site is at http://nraas.net - 1. Yes. Nothing had changed since it successfully played last other than installing some games on steam and some TS2 packs.
I'm wondering if the TS3 problem is almost connected to my TS2 game, since when I installed some TS2 packs it caused that game to crash at launch.
I ended up uninstalling the majority of the packs until the game started working again, but maybe some traces of that could be left around?
2. I have 40gb left of space in my main drive.
3. I did update Windows less than a week ago, but it had been a couple weeks since I last played TS3 so I'm not sure if that contributed to it.0 - 1 - There shouldn't be any connection between TS2 and TS3. They are entirely different programs.
2 - Doesn't sound critical (yet), but that's a bit tight.
3 - What version of Windows? If on Win 10, the new Game Mode additions that MS is reported to be rolling out seems to be causing a lot of problems for TS3.
NRaas has moved!
Our new site is at http://nraas.net - 2. Okay, I'll try to transfer some files over to my backup drive to clear up some space.
3. It's Windows 10. Are others getting similar problems and are there any solutions that you've seen?0 - 3 - Yes, but they all involve paging someone who actually uses Win 10 and knows what they are talking about.

Origin ID: kellywhovian- edited June 2017@KellyWhovian - Unfortunately, a Launcher failure isn't definitive and seems to have nearly infinite causes. If you've installed the recent Windows 10 Creator Update it could be causing issues with some apps/games. So I'd suggest that you try these three steps to counteract any effects that its Fullscreen Optimizations feature may be causing. At the very least you can then rule this potential cause In/Out.
1. Disable Fullscreen Optimizations in the Compatibility Tab of the game's .exe.
*Its a new property that the Creator Update has added in the app's .exe under the Compatibility Tab.
2. Disable the Windows 10 Creator Update Gamebar.

3. Disable Night Light
Its been found to become stuck in the enabled status, and to interfere with HDR lighting, monitor brightness, gamma ramping, color profiles, etc.

Maybe. A connection between TS2 & TS3 *is* possible, but its a really convoluted longshot.
TS2, both the CDs and the digital download versions, uses a type of DRM (Safedisc/Securom) that Win10 does not support. Older versions of Securom could, and often did, interfere with running other apps/games. Until you get TS3 running correctly, I would suggest uninstalling TS2 and removing Securom from your PC following the official instructions here: http://www.securom.com/support_faq.asp#securom*Uninstalling Securom can break any other apps/games that rely on it, requiring you to uninstall/reinstall them. I didn't think to add this warning as no app/game that uses old Securom DRM technology should be installed on Win10. Its simply incompatible. - edited June 2017I don't seem to have the Windows 10 Creator Update, as I can't find any of those features on my computer.
Deleting TS2 doesn't seem to work either. Are there any other suggestions you have for me to try and fix the launcher issues?

@Dusty_Boots
You 'deleted' TS2 or did you properly Unintall it?
Are you using Discs, Origin, or a Steam install?
I'd suggest performing a complete clean uninstall/reinstall of TS3 to remove any leftover data that could interfere with a reinstall. This guide covers both 32 & 64-bit Windows, and Mac, installations. *Make sure to pay attention to the backing it up instructions before proceeding!
Link: Game Help:TS3 Uninstall - Do you think I need to clean up the registry or are the first two steps enough?
Also, it turns out there was still TS2 in my control panel, so I didn't actually delete it completely.

Uninstalling and reinstalling the way the article said to didn't solve anything.0 - Also, it turns out there was still TS2 in my control panel, so I didn't actually delete it completely.
Its very bad practice to 'delete' apps/games. That often causes problems because it doesn't properly remove the app/game data. When you do it that way its like having a corrupted install of the app/game and that orphaned data can be difficult to locate/remove without the ability to use the app/game uninstaller. Always use the proper uninstall routines provided by the app/game or the Windows Control Panel's uninstaller. In light of that, I'd suggest that you follow this guide to cleanly uninstall TS2 and remove any leftover data:

Empty the Recycle Bin and Reboot the PC.Do you think I need to clean up the registry or are the first two steps enough?@Dusty_Boots
Uninstalling and reinstalling the way the article said to didn't solve anything.
Yes, its important to follow all of the steps to remove leftover game data and achieve a clean uninstall. Its not a buffet menu to pick & choose from. Its a precise guide to achieve a precise result. If you followed those instructions to cleanly uninstall TS3 without skipping steps and its still not launching, I'm afraid the advice becomes fairly generic and centers on potential browser and/or Client issues.
Try clearing the IE browser, which the Launcher relies on:
View and delete your browsing history in Internet Explorer
Reset the IE browser:
Reset Internet Explorer Settings to default in Windows 10/8/7?Update the Client?
You did not reply if you're using Discs, Origin, or Steam to install, which would determine the next step. Steam will always download its latest version of the game to you, so no need to patch/update at this time as no new patches have been released for about a century. I don't use Origin so I don't know if its similar. If not, because you can't currently access the Launcher's update funtions, there may be a way to manually update the game and/or Launcher. You can also try uninstalling/reinstalling Origin, but because I don't use that Client I can't advise on that process. Such things are best left to others that know far more than I do about Origin & TS3. - 1. Okay, I'll remember that for next time I have to uninstall a game.
2. I don't trust CCleaner, is there any other way I could easily clean out the traces of TS3 from my PC?
3. I'm using discs for TS2, Origin for TS3. I could possibly try uninstalling and reinstalling the program to see if that would help.
I'm going on vacation for a few days so I won't be able to do this all straight away, but thanks for the help. I'll try to get back to you on how everything works as soon as I can.0 - edited June 2017
Sorry to step back in here, but I've never heard anyone say things quite that way before. There are other choices of course but CCleaner has practically set the industry standard for Registry management. You have or know of different experiences?2. I don't trust CCleaner, is there any other way I could easily clean out the traces of TS3 from my PC?
I'm also not reading where the steps to remove Securom were followed, which I thought was part of the point of this exercise.

1. Enjoy your vacation!
In the bad old days of yore some registry cleaning apps did not always perform 'as expected'. The most common 'problem' was that it tagged many entries unrelated to whatever the user was attempting to repair. Reading between the lines, the actual cause was most often user error in not heeding the part about being selective with what the app advised for removal. Unfortunately, the reputation has remained with some users.
That said, the game uninstall guides I referrenced contain instructions for manually editing/cleaning the registry. *Make sure to follow the warning to Back Up your registry before proceeding* If you're uncomfortable with that process ask someone with some skills to help you out. Hey, we all had to start somewhere so don't be shy about needing assistance.
You're using discs to install TS2, not good news for Win10. Some of the later EP releases contained a particulary nasty version of DRM on them that could (best case) prevent the game from running or (worse case) give Win10 fits if you force it to run. That removing some of those packs allowed TS2 to run under Win10 would indicate its a good possibility. Often, the digital download versions of older games contain an updated DRM that may be compatible with Win10. Not a guarrantee, just a better bet. Even the older Win 7 & Win 8 had support for that Safedisc/Securom DRM removed via a Windows security patch. There's ways to officially re-enable it on Win7 and Win8, but not on Win10.
In short: Oh My Yes, cleanly uninstall TS2 and check into removing any Securom DRM it may have installed. - edited June 2017Hi @Igazor and @Dusty_Boots With reference to this enquiry you might remember I asked for help when having problems with the Launcher for Sims 3 some time ago. I used all your options and CCleaner (Windows 10 Insider, Creator ed.) but found I could play it again this week. I had ranted to Microsoft (via Feedback) and I don't know if that helped. A couple of Microsoft updates later it does work for me and I am not losing downloads and having to load again. Origin is also a culprit I found.
The answer seems to be keep updating and complaining! - I'll try to do the redo the uninstalling as mentioned in the article today.
To remove the Securom DRM should I use a registry cleaner or is there another way that you would recommend?

I'm glad to hear its now working for you.
I'd posted the link to Securom's official removal information above. Because Safedisc/Securom is currently identified as potential malware on Win10, there's also a chance that either your AntiVirus/Security app and/or Windows Security has placed any Safedisc data in a limbo quarantine state.
*Edit to add* Removing Safedisc/Securom may break any other apps/games that rely on it requiring you to uninstall/reinstall them. Because Win10 has no support for any such older games that rely on that technology, they really shouldn't be installed anyway.
Follow Securom's official removal guide: 3. Install and uninstall details
Run your AntiVirus app and follow its directions.

Not sure if you know this, also not related to the main cause of this topic, but still good to know; if you have several Sims 2 discs you can possibly still get the Ultimate Collection on Origin if you contact customer support the Origin UC runs smoother than the discs did for me. Also I found it easier to follow the steps to get rid of secuROM and other tricks I did to get a smoother game on Win10.
More info is on the Sims 2 subforum, definitely worth a try (or a couple of tries, depends how nice the customer support person is).Don't forget to take care of yourself every now and then in this big chaotic world!
